I've only actively been learning about trading for the last 6 months to a year but I've never understood how you guys go long on VIX. I understand what VIX is and I use it when I'm looking at SPY options but I don't know how you are trading it. I've just been assuming you guys aren't purchasing VIX short-term ETFs/ETNs because you said your trade going forward over the next 24 months would be long VIX and I would think you wouldn't want to hold those long term bc of decay but again, I'm relatively new to this and everything I've learned has either been from a book or website. When you go "long" on VIX, are you buying PUT options, VIX short ETFs/ETNs. or something I don't even know about?

What does this mean not for the retail trader? How many people on TradingView are not retail traders? What would be bad to buy and hold VIX on a low like this? I am confused?

@JeremyLongs, Thank you for the comment it means without the benefit of an extensive algo the VIX is very hard to judge but if you do your own DD then go for it. Good luck.
